Irondequoit New York is a suburb of the city of Rochester, lying just north and east of the city limits, Irondequoit aptly means, "where the land and waters meet" for the town is bordered by the Genesee River, Lake Ontario, and Irondequoit Bay. Originally, the area was home to the Seneca Nation , a tribe in the Iroquois Confederacy, The fanfare is based upon statements and fragments from "The Seneca Canoe Song" (Kayowjajineh). This traditional Seneca song reflects both the town's geographical characteristics and history. The Tonawanda Seneca Nation graciously granted permission to use this song in this fanfare celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Irondequoit Concert Band.
