Yale professor and virtuosic trombonist Scott Hartman joined pianist Dr. Gloria Kim in a performance of "Just Sayin'" for trombone and piano at the Winter Trombone Workshop at Ithaca College Wednesday, January 4, 2017 in Hockett Hall. 


The Robert Shewan Chorale premiered "O Stable Star" Sunday December 18th, 4PM at the Brighton Presbyterian Church, Brighton, NY. The text was written by poet John Kryder. The Calvary Episcopal Church Choir in Williamsville, NY performed the work at both of their Christmas eve services. 

The winner of the Master Chorale of Tampa Bay's 2016 Christmas Carol is "Silent Night" by Stephen Shewan. This TOTALLY new setting of the familiar text will be available soon. For more information, please email scshewan@aol.com. The Master Chorale of Tampa Bay premiered the work on December 2 with ensuing performances on De.  3 and 4. 

At Roberts Wesleyan College's 150th anniversary gala concert, the 90 piece alumni choir and full orchestra gave a stellar performance of Awake My Soul; Morning Has Broken. Trombonist Joshua Britton premiered Just Sayin' for trombone and piano 8PM Thursday July 7, 2016 at Houghton College in Houghton, NY.

The March 2016 ITG Journal included a review of the Suite for Trumpet and Piano. Brian Winegardner writes, "This is an intriguing and unique composition that many performers and audiences will be delighted to experience."

Critic Katie Johnson of Horn Call  says, "the Sonata for horn and piano features contemporary sounds presented in an accessible way... It is a strong new work for horn that deserves to be performed often... Congratulations to Stephen Shewan for this excellent addition to the repertoire. February 2016.

Barry Kilpatrick (2016) of the American Record Guide writes, "the Elegy for Strings is a melancholy work with beautiful climaxes. Movement II of the Sonata for clarinet and piano is a beautiful Ballad. Shewan's music garnered acclaim years ago from David Bond  (2000) and Philip Greenfield (2006). I like it, too."

Colin Clark of Fanfare says, "that Hoedown! is terrific fun" and in King David's Dance, "jazz meets pop meets bop meets mambo meets Stravinsky in this music orgy of biblical proportions. It's all great fun." November/December 2015

Now available! Just Sayin' is a 5'15" work for trombone and piano. It was written for trombonist Joshua Britton in the summer/fall of 2015. It's got attitude and it's not for the faint of heart:) The demo recording is available under the Just Sayin' icon in the chamber instrumental products section. The Celebration Overture has an infectious energy brought about via bright orchestration and stompable rhythms, a sort of Copland but with Bernstein's fire...the Elegy is moving...the splendidly intimate central ballad of the Sonata for clarinet and piano...if the spirit of Ives does to an extent hang around the finale (March) the wit is all Shewan's.
